In order to help reduce the impact that buildings have on the environment and to assist in meeting Australia’s International greenhouse obligations, Interior Engineering are now Green Star Accredited across all the building service disciplines. The Green Building Council of Australia’s (GBCA) objective is to promote sustainable development and the transition of the property industry towards sustainability by promoting green building programs, technologies, design practices and operations. Therefore GBCA have developed a comprehensive environmental rating system for buildings, know as ‘Green Star’. Green star evaluates environmental initiatives based on a number of criteria, including energy and water efficiency, indoor environment quality and resource conservation. Green Star Accredited Professionals are experienced building industry practitioners who have demonstrated their understanding of the Green Star rating system and the benefits of integrated design. Please see www.gbcus.org for further details. Interior Engineering has demonstrated their understanding of the Green Star rating system and the benefits of the integrated design in their recent projects such as Suncorp at Brisbane Square and PriceWaterhouseCoopers (see News). Interior Engineering has also followed this through into their own new office fitout by incorporating energy saving initiatives such as motion sensed lighting control and time controlled hot / boiling water systems. Solar energy is also under design for the office to harness solar power into the main switchboard during sunlight hours.
